Stick-on muntin bars for PVC windows

Stick-on muntin bars, also called applied or Vienna bars. Rigid PVC, foam adhesive tape, 5 m lengths. Angles 8°, 15°, 25°, 30° and 45°, widths from 18 to 77 mm.

Muntin bars are bonded to the face of the glass to recreate the traditional division of a window into smaller panes. They do not touch the sealed unit, so they can be applied to finished joinery too - on houses, period-style buildings and balcony doors.

As the manufacturer we carry profiles differing in width, height and the angle of the flanks. Available in white RAL 9016, cream RAL 9001 and wrapped in Renolit, Continental (Hornschuch), Cova and LG foils - in a decor matched to the window, dark shades included. Gasket in black, grey RAL 7001 or light grey RAL 7035.

The shallowest flank angle in the range. The profile sits almost flat on the glass, so it draws least attention close up while the division still reads clearly from outside.

Three profile families: ASG 13/15, ASG 9/15 and SG 15°

The compromise between the flat 8° profile and the markedly chamfered 25°. The richest size group - from a narrow 27 mm to a wide 75 mm, in three heights: 9, 10 and 13 mm.

Flanks without a chamfer, heights 10 and 13 mm

Profiles with straight, unchamfered flanks. The GB 26 version comes without a gasket. For the GL 23 profile there is a ready-made cross piece that closes the intersection of two bars without mitre cutting.

Stick-on muntin bars - properties, colours and Vienna bars

Stick-on muntin bars for PVC windows are made of rigid PVC. For white windows close to RAL 9016 we produce bars in the same colour. Bars coloured throughout in other shades are also possible, for example cream white RAL 9001.

The bars come with foam adhesive tape. Their role is decorative - they divide the glass and imitate the traditional layout of a window. The heights made most often are 8, 10 and 13 mm, and the widths 25, 45 and 75 mm. The profiles are co-extruded with soft PVC gaskets; the usual gasket colours are light grey RAL 7035, grey RAL 7001 and black.

Vienna bars are created when aluminium spacers are placed inside the sealed unit at the points where the bars are bonded. The spacer supports the pane, so the glass does not flex as the bar is pressed on. Stick-on bars and internal spacers together produce exactly this effect.

We wrap the bars with Renolit, Continental (Hornschuch), Cova and LG foils - the same ones used on window profiles, so the bar colour matches the joinery.

Fitting muntin bars - the conditions that have to be met

A bar only stays on the glass if it is bonded under the right conditions. From production practice:

Temperature. Bars and glass must be at the same temperature - windows and bars should stand in the workshop for at least 24 hours. Fit them above +18 °C where possible. In winter, never bring windows into the workshop immediately before fitting, because water will condense on the glass. In summer, glass brought in from outside will likewise be at a different temperature from the bar.

Cutting. Before fitting, the bars are cut to length and to the correct angle against the window profile. PVC expands in summer and contracts in winter, so leave equal expansion gaps at both ends of the bar.

Preparing the glass. Degrease the bonding area with isopropyl alcohol or acetone, using a clean cloth or a soft paper towel that leaves no residue. Peel the protective film off the tape gradually as you bond.

Curing. The adhesive reaches full strength after 24 hours - the windows should stay in the workshop for that time. Store the bars themselves indoors, never outside.
