Fitting method: clipped into the window frame

The starter profile of the clip-in system. It snaps directly into the window frame profile, so no drilling or screws go into the joinery. An infill board or a hollow-chamber profile slides into it to form the cladding itself.

Fitting method: screwed to the frame

The universal version of the retaining profile, screwed to the frame. It suits anywhere the joinery profile will not accept item 3001 clipped in. It works with brackets 4012 and cover profiles 4003 and 4004.

VARIO cover profiles - concealing cut edges and end profiles

The cover profile of the clip-in system. It slides onto the wall-side edge of the cladding, hiding the cut and the joint between board and wall. The result is a clean, straight finishing line with no filling.

The bracket slides onto the cladding board and is then screwed to the wall. The steel spring presses the board and takes up irregularities in the wall, so the cladding stays in one plane.

Ready-made cladding instead of a board

Hollow-chamber profiles replace the infill board - they slide straight into the retaining profile. The chambered construction gives stiffness at low weight, and the smooth surface needs no painting. The width is chosen to suit the depth of the reveal.

Two cladding systems - which to choose?

The clip-in system is built on retaining profile item 3001, which snaps straight into the window frame profile. It needs no drilling into the joinery, so installation is quick and the frame’s weather seal is untouched. The cladding is closed off with cover profile item 4001 screwed to the wall. Instead of a board you can use a ready-made hollow-chamber profile, item 0175×10 or 0250×10.

The bracket system uses universal retaining profile item 3002, screwed to the frame. The cladding board is supported by brackets item 4012 with steel springs, which absorb irregularities in the wall and hold everything in one plane. The brackets are concealed by cover profile item 4003 (75 mm) or item 4004 (100 mm).

The choice comes down mainly to the frame profile and the state of the wall. Where the profile cannot be clipped into the frame, or the reveal is badly out of true, the bracket system works better. On a true wall with typical PVC joinery, the clip-in system is faster to fit.

Reveal cladding profiles - a quick finish without plastering

Cladding a reveal, that is finishing the surround of a window or door, traditionally means plastering, filling and painting. PVC system profiles let you do the same job dry: a retaining profile links the cladding to the joinery, a panel or hollow-chamber profile fills the depth of the reveal, and a cover profile closes the edge against the wall.

The solution is valued when replacing joinery in occupied buildings, where time matters and wet trades are unwelcome. A finished reveal takes about a quarter of an hour, with no dust and no waiting for plaster to dry. The surface of the profiles is smooth and white, so it usually needs no painting.

Rigid PVC absorbs no moisture and keeps its dimensions as temperature changes, so the cladding does not crack where it meets the masonry or the joinery. That is a common problem with traditional plastered reveals, where cracks appear after the first heating season.

Choosing a reveal cladding system to suit the window and the wall

Instead of plasterboard you can use a ready hollow-chamber profile art. 0175x10 (175 x 10 mm) or art. 0250x10 (250 x 10 mm). The chambered construction gives rigidity at low weight, and the width is chosen to suit the depth of the reveal.

The choice of system depends mainly on the frame section and the state of the wall. With typical PVC joinery and true masonry the clip system is quicker; on an uneven reveal the bracket system works better.

What is a reveal and why is it clad?

A reveal is the part of the opening running perpendicular to the window, the masonry face visible once the window is fitted. Cladding a reveal covers the junction between window and masonry, finishes the return and protects the edge from damage. System profiles allow it to be done dry, with no plastering or filling.

Are the profiles moisture-resistant?

Yes. They are made of rigid PVC, which absorbs no moisture and keeps its dimensions as temperature changes. That is why the cladding does not crack where it meets masonry or joinery, and why it also suits rooms with higher humidity.
